Ashraya pain and palliative care society, Mayyil is a registered organisation working at Mayyil, Kuttiattoor, Kolachery and Narath panchayats. 'Ashraya' provides moral, medical and emotional support to those people who are totally bed ridden due to diseases like cancer, paralysis, brain tumor etc...Ashraya volunteers visit the patients once a week and provide medicines and nursing care. The Team usually consist of doctor, nurse and volunteers of palliative unit and quite tragically, they are the only ones whom these bed-ridden people can look forward to at the fag end of their life. In addition Ashraya provided educational materials to the children of poor patients. They also arrange food and clothes to the family of the poor on festive occasions.
Apart from raising funds, the biggest hurdle Ashraya volunteers face now is the lack of a reliable transport system for them to reach the downtrodden patients in different parts of the countryside. Some members of Mayyil NRI Forum have mooted the idea of extending a helping hand to Ashraya in their noble cause by providing them with a Vehicle.
The idea is for like-minded members of Mayyil NRI Forum to come together and buy a vehicle on a joint ownership basis. Once a vehicle is procured, we will provide the vehicle to Ashraya weekly once free of cost. The vehicle with driver can be used by the shareholders or their families and Mayyil NRIF Forum Members on discounted rates for rest of the time.
